The 400% line is back
From 2021 through 2025, extra help removed the upper income limit. Those enhanced credits ended on December 31, 2025. Starting with 2026 coverage, there is no premium tax credit above 400% of the poverty line.
The cut-off is sharp. One dollar over the line can mean losing the whole credit. Our premium tax credit calculator shows where your household lands.
| Household size | 2026 coverage | 2027 coverage |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $62,600 | $63,840 |
| 2 | $84,600 | $86,560 |
| 3 | $106,600 | $109,280 |
| 4 | $128,600 | $132,000 |
What you pay if you qualify
For 2027, the credit is set so you pay between 2.15% and 10.22% of household income for the benchmark silver plan. The lower your income, the smaller your share.
The limit uses the prior year's poverty guidelines. For 2027 coverage that is $15,960 for one person, plus $5,680 for each extra person. For 2026 coverage it is $15,650, plus $5,500 per person.
The lower limit in Florida, Georgia and Texas
There is also a floor. You generally need income of at least 100% of the poverty line to get the credit. Florida, Georgia and Texas have not expanded Medicaid, so some adults below that line fall into a coverage gap.
If your income is close to either line, how you estimate it matters. Use our Marketplace eligibility calculator, or see our ACA help. There's no cost and no pressure.
