What Plan G pays
Plan G pays the Part A hospital deductible ($1,736 per benefit period in 2026), hospital coinsurance and up to 365 extra hospital days, skilled nursing coinsurance ($217 a day for days 21–100 in 2026), and hospice coinsurance.
On the Part B side, it pays your 20% coinsurance, the first 3 pints of blood, and excess charges, which some doctors bill above the Medicare-approved amount. It also pays 80% of emergency care abroad, up to plan limits.

What Plan G doesn’t pay
You pay the Part B deductible: $283 in 2026. After that, Plan G covers the rest of your Medicare-approved costs for covered services. Medigap has no network, so you can see any doctor who takes Medicare.
Plan G doesn’t cover prescription drugs, routine dental, vision or hearing aids, or long-term custodial care. You also pay the Part B premium and the Plan G premium each month.
Plan G, Plan F and high-deductible G
Plan F also paid the Part B deductible, but it can’t be sold to people new to Medicare on or after January 1, 2020. For them, Plan G covers everything Plan F does except that deductible.
There is also a high-deductible Plan G: you pay the first $2,950 in 2026 ($3,050 in 2027) before it pays. Compare premiums in the Medigap cost comparison calculator.
